Natural Food

Natural food products are supposed to be free from artificial ingredients – such as flavors, colors or chemical preservatives – as well as minimally processed. Unfortunately, food manufacturers are still coming up with all kinds of ways to get around this.

What also goes unnoticed in many so-called ‘natural foods’ are the damaged fats and refined sugars, salt and artificial additives that are potentially hazardous to our health. To make matters worse, modern preservation methods involve heating food to high temperatures, which can destroy nutrients, beneficial bacteria and food enzymes.

So what does natural really mean?

Natural food is sustainable. That means local, fair-trade, seasonal and preferably organic or biodynamic. It is grown, raised, caught or produced by small-scale farmers and fishermen who nurture their soil and seeds, care about their animals and try to live in balance with nature.

Natural food is whole, just as nature has intended. Whole foods are less refined, processed or fragmented. During these procedures, many of the nutrients in food are lost. Food is most effective when the nutrients are intact and in the correct proportion.

Natural food is real. That means free from the dangerous chemicals and synthetic ingredients used in modern food production, many of which are poisonous, harmful and not well suited to our bodies.

Natural food is traditional. That means food produced, prepared and cooked the way that kept us healthy and happy for generations. It is an approach that makes nutrients more available and food more digestible and flavorsome. Traditional food also embodies the passion, integrity and commitment of the people who create it as well as their technical expertise.
